! The ALCTS Publisher/Vendor-Library Relations Committee serves as an intermediary between libraries and either publishers or vendors. Thanks to Doug Litts of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the current chair, who recently sent an ACQFlash reminding us of this branch of ALA and summarizing their function.

Do library associations elsewhere in the world have committees with a similar purpose? Do you know of other Web sites like this? Please email us if you do. They are such an important resource, and, like Doug, we would like to highlight them for those who are new to the profession in particular.

SearchEdu.com is a new Web search engine which is limited to university and education-related sites. In other words, it focuses on ".edu" Web pages. It should be a particularly handy tool when you want to bypass all the commercial clutter of the Web. Currently it indexes and ranks over 20 million pages.

The Good Book Guide is an online book community based on the British monthly book review magazine of the same name. The latter has been in print for over 20 years. They are independent, using a network of reviews and contributors, including authors. The Web site includes books of the week, authors' choices, information on signing up for a weekly email newsletter, and a discussion board.

Publishing and the World Wide Web is a survey report from BookZone. Their Web site includes highlights of the survey, which appears to have focused on commercial publishers in the United States. Some of their findings: almost 79% of publishers surveyed have Web sites, 36% have had them for three or more years, and 56% paid under $1000 to develop their sites.

ACQNET's Welcome Message has just been updated. It's our 10th year on the Net! What started as a group of 25 librarians in December, 1990, is now a forum for acquisitions librarians and others interested in acquisitions with over 1750 subscribers. This message explains the nitty-gritty of the list: subscribing, unsubscribing, archives, searching, editorial policy, and so on.

Hungry Mind Review has changed its URL, and in a few months will also change its name to Ruminator Review. That's because (in an interesting twist), last year Hungry Mind Bookstore sold the name and domain hungrymind.com to the online university, Hungry Minds. The switch will be complete April 1.

    Two new verification sites:

Antiquarian Books in Scandinavia is a another of those wonderful electronic book agents, searching the catalogs of multiple sites. In this case the scope is members of the Danish, Swedish and Finnish Associations of Antiquarian Booksellers.

zona247.com, is a new Argentinean bookstore, which according to PW Daily, is marketing to all of Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic communities.

Greetings in the new year (and faux millenium). It's an auspicious start for the AcqWeblog, as we've found not one, but two, of our own kind -- new library-related weblogs.

Liblog by Scott Bauer of Redwood City Public Library focuses on "current web sites and stories that deal with the interface between technology and libraries."

LISNews.com: Library and Information Science News and Views by Blake Carver and Steve Galbraith is a somewhat tongue in cheek look at the "latest news in the world of Library and Information Science." Their "Must Read" page includes links to such items as a U.S. News & World Report story on Library schools today are turning out webmasters
